I’ve spent hundreds of nights under the stars, paddled through remote waters, and pushed myself physically and mentally through rugged terrain. My current favorite adventures involve minimalist camping in remote areas and long-distance kayaking trips. Along the way, I’ve developed a deep skill set in navigation, orienteering, survival techniques, fire-starting (including my favorite method, a fire piston), knots, and understanding ecosystems.

My journey to creating Kilson Outdoors started with a simple realization: many people want to experience the outdoors but don’t have the right gear—or the budget to buy it all at once. I’ve been through countless pieces of equipment, using some until they wore out, replacing others with better versions, and even giving gear away to help friends get outside. I’ve tested nearly every major product in the industry, learning firsthand what works best in different conditions.

Seeing someone sleep under the stars for the first time, truly comfortable in the wilderness, is something special. That’s what Kilson Outdoors is all about—removing barriers and making adventure accessible.

The Future of Kilson Outdoors

I see Kilson Outdoors becoming more than just a rental service. One day, I envision a physical outpost along a scenic river—where people can rent kayaks, pick up locally sourced fishing gear, and grab a morning coffee or an evening local beer at a small café. A place where adventurers gather, share stories, and prepare for their next trip.

Beyond gear rentals, I’m also working toward guiding hunting trips and outdoor expeditions. As an avid archery and rifle hunter, I’m currently expanding my knowledge of South Carolina’s Jocassee Gorges WMA, a stunning 45,000-acre wilderness area known for its rugged beauty and diverse wildlife.
